Victorian house converted into a modern home

Among the novices in the interior design often appears an error when is talking about Victorian style. Most of them believe that it occurs only in the region of the United Kingdom. Not true! An example of a Victorian house built elsewhere than in the UK (in this case, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia) is the one that we present today, although essentially we are talking about a house whose face was reconsidered.

Basically, apart from some Victorian influences left especially to remember the past of the house, it is now a modern home. The facade has remained unchanged, while the extension and the interior were redesigned to be in tune with the current trends and the needs of the owners.

The main advantage, besides the visual effect, is that of the space. The way that the interior was redesigned offers more living space. Note that the surface is not very large. Without the set of changes made, the rooms and the hallways would have been tiny and poorly lit, fairly narrow.

The living room has been transformed into an open space room without interior doors. The back of the house was extended with a few meters, in order to obtain a large living room which benefit from natural light, even if it meant a significant reduction of the green space. However, the owners have added a large capacity grill and lawn, a simple solution to maintain, given the small size.

The final aspect of this home is contrasting: if the exterior is 90% in classic Victorian style, the interior and the lateral-back of the house does not remember anything of the history of the house.
