No matter how trivial it seems, when you will see yourself in front of the department with a thousand kinds of wallpaper, you will hardly manage to decide which is the best for your home. But you have to keep in mind some essential elements and the task of choosing will substantially simplify.
TYPES OF WALLPAPER
Depending on the type of support, the wallpaper can be of many types:
On paper support. It can be simple, which is made of a single layer of paper, or double made of two layers: the support that constitutes the base, which is made of paper, and the upper printed layer, which can be made of paper, vinyl foam, PVC or textile fibres.
On nonwoven fibres support. It is the newest type of wallpaper. It is very easy to apply, is very modern, but has a big disadvantage: it attracts dust and absorbs odors.
But the wallpaper is divided into categories also when it comes to the composition of the surface layer:
Paper wallpaper. It can be washable and semiwashable.
Vinyl wallpaper. It is resistant to humidity and sunlight and, in addition, it can be painted.
Textile fiber wallpaper. It has the outer surface covered with textile fibers.
WHICH ONE IS THE BEST
The hall, where the traffic is more intense, needs a vinyl wallpaper or one on dual support of paper.
In the living room, the textile fiber wallpaper or the one on nonwoven fiber support will look excellent.
Since it is washable and resistant to humidity, the vinyl wallpaper will be perfect for the kitchen.
When it comes to children’s rooms, it is better to choose a more natural wallpaper, made of textile fibers or paper.
THE IDEAL TEXTURE
Thin wallpaper is cheaper, but you should know that the thicker one will look much better. In addition, the wall does not require any special treatment, so it can be applied also on not very smooth walls.
PATTERN AND COLORS
Vibrant colors can be irritating, but the pastel ones offer peace and relaxation. If you have enough light in the room, you can use with confidence colors like blue, gray, silver, pink, cherry red, purple or violet. If the room lighting is poor, choose warm and bright shades like orange, green, gold, ivory, beige, coffee with milk and cream shades.
