Green walls, covered with lichens give any room a fresh air. Additionally, they are beautiful and can radically transform any room.
First you should know that lichens are organisms composed of a fungus and an algae. They are extremely resistant and can grow without any problems even in the harshest environmental conditions. The lichens used for decorating interior walls are leafy lichens that offer a pleasant appearance to the room. They can vary from shades of green to purple, red and even black-green.
Benefits of a wall with lichens
– Adjusts the humidity level in the room
– Lowers the temperature of a room by 3 to 7 degrees Celsius in the summer, thus increasing thermal comfort
– Improves air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen
– Does not attract insects and does not host any potentially harmful organisms
– Does not produce allergens or irritants and does not retain dust, so it is recommended for people suffering from allergies
– Last up to 10-15 years and require no care
Care of a wall with lichens
Although at first glance may seem hard to care for, lichen walls do not need special care. Just be careful to the humidity in the room, because they get their water needs from the air. For this reason, lichens are a good indicator of the level of humidity in the room.
All you have to do is pay attention to the color of lichens. If you notice that they are reducing their volume, become dry or change color, it means the air in the house is dry. Sprinkle them with water using a pulverizer.
When the humidity in the room is above normal, the lichens increase their volume and have an intense color.
After about 10-15 years, lichens begin to get old. Their appearance will change gradually and the plants will dry.
