Panettone Hobbit house

Have you heard of one popular and yet traditional cake/dessert from Italy? It’s called Panettone and it is usually made for Christmas and for the Easter holiday. Actually Panettone it is made to be eaten all year round, taking aside the traditional aspect, and it is the Italian equivalent for the German lebkuchen or marzipan stollen, cookies and cakes made especially for Christmas yet highly commercialized during all seasons.

The Italian Panetonne is quite delightful with its sugar crust, soft bread, sweet dried fruits and sometimes chocolate chips. It is no wonder people buy it all the time plus it has an interesting look. Did you ever consider that a Panettone resembles  a house? Well, not just any type of house, but a Hobbit house. Lord of the Rings fans will get this hint faster than others. If you have seen the latest movies after the The Hobbit book written by J.R.R Tolkien you will see just how much the Hobbit’ s house resembles to a Panettone. To start with the houses were made of wood having that light brown colour the same as the Panettone crust. They had round roofs and were usually like a fox hole in the ground, resembling quite like the overall shape of the Italian cake. Since the Hobbits were small, they fit into small houses with plenty of tiny rooms. They were all well decorated and the round door looked a lot like a slice of cake. You can even imagine that the content of the Panettone is the equivalent of the home décor of the Hobbit home. Next time you buy one of these Italian cakes, I bet you will be thinking of this big resemblance.
