What imagination and vision have some people! I look at this garden, designed by the Australian landscape architect Nathan Burkett and I can not believe you can have something like this in the yard. If I had such a garden, I would never leave home!
This garden project is called “Equilibrium” and it was designed for the International Festival of Landscaping and Floral Decorations in Melbourne, Australia, where he won the gold medal.
SYMMETRY AND BALANCE
Unlike traditional gardens, where you can observe abundance of plants, trees and shrubs, in the Equilibrium project all the present elements are used very calculated, which has resulted in a minimalist design and a symmetry extremely pleasing to the eye.
Decor center is a concrete platform covered with slabs of the same material, surrounded by a trench dressed in gray mosaic and supplied by fountains placed all around it, at equal distances. On this platform was arranged a modern terrace, equipped with a minimalist fireplace built in a concrete wall. I can imagine how pleasant can be the evenings spent in one of the sofas placed in front of the fireplace, watching the flames dancing and listening to the murmur of water!
In the sides of the terrace, the other two platforms, this time covered with a flawless lawn, the architect built two decorative arbors of ornamental maples, planted at equal distance from each other. The alleys that surround the terrace and the two platforms with green grass are shaded by a wrought iron and wood roof that has rather a decorative role, strengthening the symmetry that the landscape architect wanted to create.
From the wall that sits nestled the modern fireplace are built in its left and right, concrete gutters with broad and robust curbs, designed to outline the boundary of the arranged perimeter, having, at the same time, the role of pots in which are planted ornamental shrubs, behind which dominates a hedge of nearly three meters high.
A SPRING WITH MODERN DESIGN
The trench that discretely surrounds each portion of the garden detaching them and uniting them at the same time is a modern and minimalist interpretation of a river, the water being recirculated using an underground system. If you like water, then you surely like this small decorative trench which, by the way, is among the last years trends in arranging minimalist gardens, Japanese inspired.
ANOTHER KIND OF FIREPLACE
Maybe fireplace is not the best word, I think it would be better to call it decorative campfire, which is not difficult to make if you have some natural stone or a few bricks.
As you can see from the images, this campfire, which is nothing but a huge brass plate, is placed in the center of a square that forms a relaxation area, surrounded by a bench under which are stacked the firing. In the entire architectural ensemble created by Nathan Burkett, even the firewood has a strong decorative role, contrasting beautifully with the gray color of the raised platforms.
