USE MIRRORS TO CREATE THE ILLUSION OF A LARGER SPACE
It’s a trick as old as it is effective: mirrors can create the feeling of a much larger space and can increase the brightness of a room. Therefore, if you have a small bedroom, do not sum to put a small mirror on the wall, because here it is allowed excess: use a closet with mirrors on the doors or even a wall completely covered by a mirror. If you think it is too much, buy at least a bigger mirror with decorative frame, which will give the impression of a larger space and will be an original design element.
USE BRIGHT COLORS, NEUTRAL TONES AND A FEW BOLD ACCENTS
Although most designers agree that a small bedroom is more advantaged by light colors, which create light, there are some who say you should be bold when it comes to colors, even if you don’t have much space. We believe that the best is the middle way: if you have a small bedroom, use warm colors or at least in light shades and complete with the “icing on the cake” – a decoration in a bright color or a distinct texture. It could be a special pillow, an original bedding, a unique lamp or a portion of a wall covered with an interesting wallpaper.
Whichever combination you choose, remember to have no more than 3 colors in a small room, because the space will seem more cramped and will be visually exhausting.
CREATE INGENIOUS STORAGE SPACES
In a small bedroom you can not use many pieces of furniture, so you have to orient to multifunctional pieces. Given that people are living in increasingly smaller spaces, you will have no trouble finding a bed with an ingenious storage space. Besides the space under the bed, we recommend you to not leave empty nor the space around the bed. Create a mobile frame around the bed and use it to keep your objects there.
USE SHELVES
If you have a small bedroom, then shelves are your besr friends, because they allow you to deposit things effectively, in open space up to the ceiling. Closets and chests of drawers, no matter how narrow they are, they seem to occupy much more space than some simple shelves. They are airy and can be used for two purposes simultaneously: storage and decor.
GIVE UP CARPETS AND FUSSY PATTERNS
One of the most useful tricks when you have a small bedroom is to completely give up carpets, but only if you can afford a wood floor or one that looks good. If it’s compulsory to keep the carpet, give up fussy patterns and opt for a pale one – white, cream, beige, gray – these are nuances that make the room seem larger.
If you opt for a floor without carpet, but the space still seems too blank, confidently use one or two rugs. Tip: if you leave the floor without carpet, do not use long curtains for windows or do not use at all curtains or drapes, because this creates a visually unpleasant contrast and will seem like it’s really missing something in the room.
