5 ways to use lavender in your house

Lavender has many benefits for your home. Banishes moths, deodorizes rooms and helps you to relax. Here’s how you can use lavender in your own home.

1. Table decorations

The delicate scent of lavender makes it perfect for table decoration. Add lavender in small vases and decorate the table when you have guests.

2. Room freshener

Lavender fragrance is pleasant and has relaxing effects. Take advantage of its benefits and make an air freshener. In a sprayer add a part of lavender essential oil and three parts of water. Shake the bottle well and perfume the house whenever you consider it necessary.

3. Lavender sachets for wardrobe

Put lavender to dry, and after a few days, grind it with a knife. Add the content in cotton bags and put them in the wardrobe. This will perfume the clothes and will keep moths at bay.

4. Create your own laundry detergent

Create your own laundry detergent in which you add 12-15 drops of essential oil of lavender. A homemade detergent is environmentally friendly and much cheaper than those purchased from the market. This is the recipe:

Ingredients:
– 1 solid soap
– a box of caustic soda (soda washing)
– a box of sodium borate (borax) – optional
– a bucket with handle of about 15 liters
– 11.5 liters water
– a large spatula
– 1 measuring container
– 1 knife

Put a liter of water in a large pot and let it simmer. Meanwhile, scrape the soap and add it in water, then mix until complete dissolution.

You should get a homogeneous liquid, well concentrated.

Heat 11 liters of water and pour them into the bucket, then add the soap solution in the water, mix well and pour 2-3 minutes the caustic soda (use a protective glove to avoid dangerous chemical reactions in contact with skin).

Then mix for another minute or two, then put borax (if you choose to use it – it has an excellent stain removal, but must be handled with caution). Continue to mix well with spatula for 3-4 minutes and let it cool. If you want to fragrance your home detergent, add natural essences of lavender, lemon, pine, floral extracts etc.

The next morning, you’ll notice that you got a bucket of thick liquid detergent. Use for every washing the ordinary quantity of detergent and you’ll find the same efficiency as in the case of the washing product you purchase from the supermarket.

5. Bookmark

Dry by pressing one or several sprigs of lavender, and then use them as a bookmark. If you use more than one sprig, tie them together with a thread.
