It is called a “beach”, but nobody is sitting here looking for the perfect tan, neither for building sand castles. Although it doesn’t offer classic seaside amusements, the Red Beach in China is visited annually by tourists from all over the world, bewitched by the magic of this place.
THE MOST COMPLEX ECOSYSTEM ON THE PLANET
This beach is located in northeast China, in Liaohe River delta, at 30 km from the town of Panjin, in the largest area of swamp and thicket in the world. The numerous species of plants, birds and animals here make from Red Beach the most complex ecosystem on the planet.
The delta was declared a natural reserve in 1988 and it hosts more than 250 species of birds, including some endangered species, like the Red Crowned Crane or seagulls with black beak. Because of their presence, the area is also called the “home of the cranes”. At the same time, here live about 400 species of animals.
The red color is due to the plant of the genus Suaeda salsa. It begins to rise in April-May, in summer is green, but until the fall it gets a bright red color.
TOURIST ON THE RED BEACH
The reservation covers 100 square kilometers, but only a small part of it can be visited by the public. The perfect months to visit it are September and October, when plants here are red. Tourists can admire the scenery from the bridges built especially for them.
To get there you can take the train or bus from Beijing or Tianjin. Another option is to take a bus from Dalian or Shenyang, that goes to Panjin every 30 minutes. There are special buses from Panjim leading to the Red Beach and a ticket costs just about 1 $. It’s good to know that these buses will not leave you right in the reservation, you will have to walk a little.
The program of the visit is between 8.30 and 17.00 and one stay overnight in Panjin city costs from $ 32 up, depending on the facilities offered.
