How it would be like to see every day a different landscape, always something else? This asked himself also the Dutch architect Koen Olthuis and his team from Waterstudio, who found the solution to make a fleet of apartments.
His project, which was named Citadel, proposes apartments that float on water. For these buildings are working for a few years, and to finance the project participates also the Dutch government.
In total it’s about 180 modular elements and in the middle there will be a kind of inner courtyard. Each apartment will have large windows and a small terrace. The first floating block will have 60 apartments.
It will be built on a polder, and when it will be ready, it will be flooded until it will float. Initially the water will be approximately 1.5 meters and will grow up to 3 meters in depth.
The construction is made of lightweight materials and it will even have parking for each apartment. It is designed to communicate easily with the land when it reaches the shore. The designers say that there will be a bridge that links within seconds with the land and will allow residents to cross on foot or by car.
The designers say that those who will live in these apartments will be able to put their furniture and all sorts of other objects like in any other house on the ground. These blocks are designed to exist only on calm water without waves.
The idea of the Dutch architect, specialized also in houses built near water, is not singular. An Italian company that manufactures yachts wants to make a house that floats on water, but not on a lake, but even on the great oceans and seas.
The UFO house is powered by an waterjet type electric motor, powered by a battery that loads from some solar panels. There will be alternative sources of energy produced using wind and some special turbines for power generation through water.
