Bored with the decors dominated by browns, two young people in Minsk have tried to arrange the living room in white and purple, colors with which they managed to compose a very modern decor.
Arrangements in “good and gentle” shades of brown are widely used worldwide for the soothing effect of the decors obtained and because are easy to accessorize. Many people believe that pastel shades of beige and cream are too ordinary and common and are looking to turn their attention to more vivid colors with which they can compose strong contrasts.
WHITE AND PURPLE – A COMBINATION WITH STRONG VISUAL IMPACT
When they found out that they are going to become parents, Michael and Veronika from Minsk decided they need to redecorate the whole house until the birth of their first child, being convinced that after the birth they will not have time for renovations and redevelopment. And if the other rooms of the apartment did not need too many changes, the living room required a radical transformation.
Except the solid oak flooring that have been reconditioned to make it completely new, all other elements of decor were changed with new and modern ones, chosen by the young expectant mother: the walls were dressed in a wallpaper imitating decorative plaster, the ceiling was lined with spotlights, and the furniture was made to order to integrate perfectly in the 17.7 square meters available.
WALLPAPER IMITATING DECORATIVE PLASTER
Although the room wasn’t small, the couple decided to dress it in colors that make it look even more spacious. As a result, the choice was white and a few spots of purple – a strong color that needs a neutral basis to be able to develop without becoming visually disturbing.
And because in Belarus, as in all former Soviet states, wallpaper is an extremely popular finish being present in all homes, regardless of their size, Veronika and Michael started looking for a distinct decorative wallpaper with a modern look that perfectly complement the decor that they already had in mind. When they thought that will not find what they wanted, in a corner of one of the specialized centers in the marketing of wallpaper, they found an interesting pattern from an old collection, with a texture that mimics the decorative plaster. They were lucky to find the same pattern in white and purple, so they paid it and took it home.
BUTTER COLORED SOFA, IN CONTRAST WITH THE WHITE WALL
After they wallpapered the living room walls, they were able to decide about the furniture they needed. They knew only that they want white furniture. The choice of the bookcase was simple: the white furniture contrasted wonderfully with the purple wallpaper. But choosing the color of the sofa took some more time to think: they wanted a white sofa, but they were afraid that it would lose on the background of the wall dressed in the decorative white wallpaper. But the furniture store consultants helped them recommending to choose a butter colored sofa – a yellowish white is bright and discreet and it differs from the white decorative wallpaper.
From now things were simplified: they bought a vaporous curtain made of white voile, a purple chandelier, they commissioned in a specialized photo shop, a painting in shades of purple that was hanged on the wall above the sofa, they found an ivory carpet and a coffee table with minimalist design and glass countertop, completing the modern decor of the living room.
What do you think about this color choice? Would you have the courage to use it in decorating your house?
