No matter how much you take care of the wood flooring, is almost impossible to completely avoid scratches or matting. Therefore, most often the parquet in your home will need special care and changes destined to remove the old appearance.
Here are some tips on refinishing wood floors, which will give a new breath to the entire room that you are renovating:
1. CHECKS BEFORE TRANSFORMATION
Before you start renovating, you must make sure that the parquet in your home withstands a transformation. Detach a plate of it and measure its thickness. Consult with a specialist to decide if you can start to polish and repaint, given the thickness of the tiles.
2. POLISHING
To remove traces and scratches on the floor, you’ll need a special buffer and much skill. Test the buffer in a safer place until you get used to the specific movements and you manage to master the technique of polishing. Continue until you smooth the entire surface as much as uniform. Make sure you have at hand a vacuum cleaner with which to clean the dust and residues from polishing. If you can’t do it alone or you don’t have time, appeal the help of a specialist.
3. KEEPING THE NATURAL COLOR OR CHANGING IT
If the flooring you want to transform is made of wood, you can easily change its color using mixtures based on stain. Depending on the desired color intensity, you have to dilute the stain with water or special solutions. Test the color in a sheltered spot before covering the entire floor.
4. VARNISHING
Give shine to the parquet using special varnish of water-based or oil-based polyurethane. The advantage of water-based varnish is that it dries in just three hours, while oily varnish needs at least 8 hours to dry completely. In any case, if you want to not encounter such aesthetic problems when it comes to flooring, it is sufficient to refresh the varnish layer every two years.
