Onion rings are easy to prepare, but to get really delicious rings you need to know a few useful tricks. The best and the healthiest are those prepared in the oven, not fried. Here’s how you can impress your family in a pleasant way with this apparently ordinary meal.
INGREDIENTS
– 1 cup flour
– 3 quite large red onions
– 3 eggs
– 3 tablespoons milk
– 2 cups breadcrumbs
– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
– paprika
– salt
– pepper
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 430 degrees F and coat a tray with baking paper.
In a capacious bowl add the flour, salt, spices and garlic powder.
In another bowl add the breadcrumbs and season to taste with paprika.
In another bowl add the eggs and beat them well with a fork, until you get a homogeneous composition. Gradually incorporate the milk. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Peel the onions and cut it into slices so that you get maximum 1.5 cm wide rings. Pass each ring through the flour mixture, then through the egg and finally the breadcrumbs. Sit the rings in the tray and bake them for 25 minutes or until they are crisp and golden.
Serve the onion rings warm, along with a steak or a salad. They go very well with sauces such as tomato sauce, mayonnaise or sour sauce.
