It may seem trivial, but when you have to choose the color for the outside of the house you’ll see that it’s not that simple. There are a lot of things that need to be considered, from the overall appearance of the neighborhood, to the size and architecture of the house.
1. NEIGHBORING HOUSES
It is true that first you must like how your house looks, but an essential element that needs to be considered is the look of the neighborhood where you live. Specifically, you can “inspire” from the colors chosen by neighbors. Because you can not paint your house in leek-green if those around are brick-colored.
2. ARCHITECTURE AND SIZES
The architecture of the building helps a lot when you choose the shades to paint your home. For example, a cottage can provide more freedom when it comes to choosing colors. But a villa with several apartments should have no more than two colors. Another option would be to choose one color and to play with colors for window frames and the rest of the architectural elements.
Consider how high the building is, because a large house in a very dark color may look good, if it is not too garish. It is best to choose a brighter shade, vibrant, for exterior walls, thus offering more style to your home.
Instead, a small house in a light color may lose its personality. Therefore you must choose the middle path. And attention! Light colors neutralize the features that you wish to highlight.
3. THE COLOR OF THE ROOF
The exterior walls lose color in time, while the roof color will remain the same even 20 years. As a result, the color of the roof should be a deciding factor when you decide what color to use for the exterior. If the material that covers the building is darker, then you need to consider a lighter shade for the walls. A neutral tone of the roof allows more options when it comes to color schemes.
The range of colors that can inspire you for a perfect exterior, is generally from brown, beige, mahogany, red cedar and gray.
