Holidays. The word we love probably the most. Relaxation, the people we love, nice places, no work, airing our brains. Yes, that’s what holidays stand for. Most of the time. Unfortunately, things don’t go the way we want them to all the time. Nobody says a bit of adventure is not welcome. But when that bit gets a bit bigger and then another bit bigger and so on, your holiday turns into a so not holiday. That’s why a few holiday organizing tips to help you avoid unpleasant situations are very much of a must as the holiday itself.
Organization is the word that keeps things simple and unpleasantness-free. It’s true that there are other factors that don’t depend on you and that might bring a bit of a trouble when on holiday. Let’s stick to the ones you should take care of. So, if there’s something that goes wrong, at least you’ll take comfort from having fulfilled your duty.
No matter the type of holiday you’re going for (car trip, plane travel), there are a few things to take care of before the actual trip. And the master word here is lists. Make a list for each stage of your holiday planning. The “before you leave to-dos” list, the packing list and so on and so forth.
Holiday organizing tips – Keep travel related information in just one place
This comes after deciding where to go and what travel means to use. Once you’ve all said “yes” to one location, it is very important to write down all the travel information like contact information for the hotel, car rental agencies, airlines, passport numbers and so on in one place. Use your daily organizer, a notebook or whatever you use frequently and can’t be lost. You can have a copy of this list in your phone as well.
Holiday organizing tips – Time to pack! Do it light!
This is probably the toughest part…for women. When you hear the word light next to pack, you’re starting a list of your “I cannot do withouts”. Well, remember lists are made to make your holiday smooth, stress-free, light. So, pack light indeed! Think of the things you really need there. Go for the appropriate clothing taking into account the weather, the activities you’ll opt for, the number of days to spend there. Ok, you can have that elegant dress too if you plan a romantic dinner with your dear one. And the high-heels. Just a pair of them, though.
Now, besides clothing (the most necessary ones), tickets, passports and other travel documents, your must-haves include small travel kits, small toiletries, travel appliances, personal care products and of prime importance, the medicines you take (if any). The words here are travel-sized/small and must-haves. Nothing else besides those.
Holiday organizing tips – Packing organizers
Although not numerous, the things that will end up in your travel luggage must be organized properly in order for you not to have unpleasant surprises when reaching your destination. Therefore, divide your luggage into “theme” areas. Socks, clothing and underwear go into one section. Personal care items in a separate storage item (preferably a zipper storage bag) and so on and so forth. Shop for travel organizers and bags to keep it simple here.
Holiday organizing tips – Outdoor activities, old underthings
If you’re going to hike or climb a lot, you might want to use those old underthings you’ve gathered in the last year. Such activities will wear them out. So, why not spare money and wear the old things!? Toss them when they reach an “unwearable” state and thus make room for souvenirs.
Holiday organizing tips – Shop…light!
One of the things we love to do when on vacation is shopping. Yes, that’s the bare truth. People love to spend money on souvenirs that will remind them of the beautiful moments they lived there. Well, nothing wrong with that but if your home is already very much of a clutter, think twice before buying something. You can as well opt for postcards or small things. A travel journal and pictures will remind of your trip, too.
If you’re a big family and you want to avoid the “momma, buy me that please” moments and your kids aren’t too young, you can go for budget envelopes for each of your children. Give them the money at the beginning of the holiday and let them know that’s all they will get. You will be surprised to see how thrift they can get.
Once you’ve taken care of all this, you’re very close to a 99% successful holiday. The 1% is just the unforeseeable.
