Along the years we have witnessed the rise and fall of certain brands and products. Be it of economical, or reasons related to publicity or simply bad management from CEO, some of the brands of the past haven’t made their way into the current market. Of course, the process of maintaining a brand’s continuity in the shark pool that we call a commercial market is not an easy task, however there are those who win and those who perish. Some of the most epic brand fights or the centuries have taken pace right before our very eyes but maybe we failed to acknowledge it. Although, we did see that some of them gained ground while others slowly retreated into smaller market segments.
We begin with the Coke versus Pepsi war or the Cola Wars as the Americans call it. This high competition between these two beverage companies has been taking place ever since 1980. We saw it everywhere, on TV, in billboards, commercial adds and stores, the rivalry between Coca-Cola and Pepsi still goes on even now, although a domination has already been established placing Coke as number 1, Diet Coke its second and third place is occupied by Pepsi.
Another highly influential and important rivalry of the decade is the one between Android and Apple. Although both of the companies create smarphones which are currently at a hype, there seems to be a war between the companies who use Android as their smartphones’ operating system and Apple. Depending on the user and his needs, he might choose either one. At this point it really hard to establish which of these companies is winning the war, since both of them are highly used and highly influential. Most of the choices of the buyers depend on the geographical position, cultural references and even sheer chance. However Apple and iOS users state that they would not go back to using Android.
Shoe companies have also been at war for many years now, since they want to establish their dominion over the sportswear market segment. Take for instance the competition between Adidas and Nike. Both of them are popular around the world but only one can be number one. For now Nike has the lead, also owning Jordan Brand, Umbro, Hurley, Converse and Cole Haan. But Adidas is growing fast and soon it might actually represent a threat to Nike, especially since it owns Rockport, Taylor Made golf company and Reebok.
Audi versus BMW or this internal German war is one outstanding thing to witness. Both companies produce high tech efficient cars and their quality is certain. However there are fans that state that Audi is growing up fast and will soon take over the lead. Audi is specialized on the sedan, hatchback models whereas BMW is rocking it on the 4×4 segment and the eco friendly one. The new tendencies sported by the latest BMW units, which are fuel efficient and oriented towards the driver and the quality of the interior might secure the company’s dominion for the years to come.
When it comes down to social platforms the war goes down between Facebook and Twitter. Facebook is already a colossus in this field and many would say it is hard to compete against the giant. However, there are facts that prove Twitter is not actually in the shade. Where Facebook is oriented on promotional and other set or services, Twitter is slowly taking the upper hand in the direct social platform, being accessible on your phone. A simple Tweet can help you communicate with your friends easily and you don’t need to go through all the photos and nonsense constantly shared by bored users. Many years Twitter didn’t budge an inch at economical stats but with time it started to grow on its users and gained some advantage.
The war over the internet is settled between two most popular search engines, Google and Bing. Bing is the search engine produces by Microsoft and although at first it appeared it is a mere baby in comparison to the mighty Google, in time it has proven efficient and in a couple of years managed to reach the second position after Google. Yahoo was once second after Google but the current stats present the top as follows: Google number 1, Bing number 2 and 3rd place is taken by Yahoo.
Google has another side to defend in the Chrome vs. Firefox epic fight. While Chrome is developed by Google, Firefox has more humble beginnings being the successor of Netscape and being an open source. Depending on the type of operating system, the quality of the computers or the geographical positioning, either Chrome or Firefox take the lead. There are more conservative users who prefer Firefox to Chrome. Despite being much younger than Firefox, Chrome quickly got up its figures and they are currently almost equally used worldwide.
McDonalds vs KFC is one tasty rivalry we are witnessing. You can test this where you live, for every McDonalds there will be a KFC. Depending on the country and its policies, one of these companies was accepted first. McDonalds was highly popular during the 90’s and assured its first place on the fast food markets in many European countries. However, KFC, started to gain ground even if it entered this war a bit later. Even today there are many that vote for McDonalds as being their favourite fast food chain, even though both companies produce the same type of quality fast food, served in a similar manner. McDonalds won the family section through Happy Meals and children toys, a segment of the market where KFC is absent.
In the competition between whoever stores your money and helps with transactions, Visa is at knives with MasterCard. Depending on the country and continent, both of them have a similar amount of coverage. However when it comes to Internet money and transactions, Paypal uses Visa, assuring this market segment for one of the opponents.

The battery segment of the market is not fight free, the differences here lie between Energizer and Duracell. Duracell is produced by Proctor & Gamble and it is currently used for anything that requires a battery. Energizer is produced by Energizer Holdings Inc. In comparison, Duracell last longer at pretty much anything while Energizer lasts longer for clocks. The market segment covered by Energizer is 25% while Duracell peaked with a 29% of the battery market, guess the pink bunny won, for now at least.
