ECOLOGIC MATERIALS FOR RENOVATING YOUR HOUSE

In any renovation project, it is important to find a balance between time, budget and aesthetics of your renewed home. And because you care about the planet you live on, you have to include also the environmental factor in this equation. Whether you collaborate with a specialized company, with a designer or if you do everything by yourself, it’s important to know which materials are environmentally friendly and which you can use to transform your home:

COMPOSITE FLOORS FOR YOUR TERRACE

Made from recycled materials, these floors are a sustainable alternative for terraces and balconies. They are easy to maintain and are highly resistant to deformation, and the mildew does not touch them.

BAMBOO

Bamboo is one of the most versatile and attractive interior materials. It can be used also in outdoor spaces and it is environmentally friendly due to the accelerated pace of growth. You can use bamboo instead of the classic wood flooring, but also for the kitchen countertop.

THE TIMBER FROM DEMOLITIONS

There are non-governmental associations and organizations dealing with the recovery of materials after demolition. Timber is one of these materials and it can be reused for creating stylish and sophisticated furniture with vintage look.

RECYCLED GLASS

Glass can be reused in combination with various resins to create beautiful designs of mosaics for countertops or floors. This may look like small mosaic or even to resemble granite, it is scratch resistant and easy to clean, even without using chemicals.

LEATHER BELTS

Whether you find enough to use them instead of parquet or simply “weave” a carpet of them, you have to admit it looks awesome! You can use them for dressing the seats or the coffee table.

PAINT LEFTOVERS

Maybe you will not be able to paint the whole house in one color, but you can call your friends or neighbors who have renovated recently to get the remains of paint or lime they no longer use. Different colored walls are still in vogue, so it’s worth a try.

All great ideas! Also, sustainable living includes a commitment to using previously-loved or vintage furnishings instead of buying new, whenever possible.
