BO KAAP – CAPE TOWN – SOUTH AFRICA
Bo Kaap is considered the Muslim neighborhood of the capital Cape Town. It is a place full of history that connects downtown to Fort.
CINQUE TERRE – ITALY
Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore are the five villages that form the “Land of the 5 Earths” or Cinque Terre.
Located on the Italian Riviera in the Liguria region, the entire area is protected by UNESCO.
FAVELA PAINTING – RIO DE JANEIRO – BRAZIL
Since 2005, Haas&Hahn have created several Favela Painting projects in Rio de Janeiro, ranging from a single Mural to a whole street transformed into a river and a giant square turned into a radiant explosion of color.
GUANAJUATO – MEXICO
The state capital with the same name, Guanajuato is famous for its very narrow streets that wind through the city. The most of them are impassable for the means of transportation, residents being forced to use bicycles or mopeds.
Guanajuato is famous also for Mummies Museum, a place which houses the largest collection of mummies in America, mostly preserved naturally during the 18th and 19th centuries.
JODHPUR – INDIA
Jodhpur is known as “Sun City” because of the many sunny days of all year, but at the same time is known as the Blue City due to the colors of the buildings in the city.
The many palaces, temples and forts make Jodhpur one of the most visited cities all over India.
OLD SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO
Old San Juan town extends about 50 km east of Puerto Rico. The fortress, alongside the historic center were included in UNESCO patrimony. The city is known for its Spanish architecture of 18th and 19th century that was preserved until today.
SAN FRANCISCO – USA
In 1776 the Spaniards arrived in the current bay San Francisco and put up the first fort and the first Catholic church in California. San Francisco gradually developed, being considered the most important city on the west coast of the United States.
During the “gold rush” the town burgeoned almost overnight. In a year the city’s population increased from 1,000 people to 25,000 people.
ST. JOHN’S – NEWFOUNDLAND – CANADA
The city is the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador and is considered the first British colony on American territory. It was occupied by the Dutch and French between 1500 and 1600, but each time it was recovered by the British and refortified.
St. John’s played a very important role during the Second World War, when there was built the largest base anti-submarine in America.
VALPARAISO – CHILE
Currently the third largest city in Chile, Valparaiso played an important role throughout the region over time. Known as the “little San Francisco” or “the Jewel of the Pacific”, Valparaiso was in the 19th century the most important port which connected the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean.
In Valparaiso was built the first stock exchange in Latin America, Chile’s first library and the first fire department on the continent.
WROCLAW – POLAND
Wroclaw is the fourth largest city in Poland and most important in the west of the country. It was part of the territories ceded to Nazi Germany, but in 1945, with the territorial relocation of the entire Europe it definitively entered under the administration of Poland.
Wroclaw was chosen European Capital of Culture 2016.
