No need to talk about how eager people are to rid of their daily chores, responsibility and duties and find refuge in some exotic destination. We’ve all been there. The thing with destinations, more precisely with picking the one to suit your needs and budget best is the one that weighs a lot. There are so many, so beautiful, so much of a must-see.
Well, if history and architecture as well as nature are the elements you respond to, there’s this magnificent castle in North Yorkshire, England. There’s something about such places that manages to empty our minds of the daily heaviness. It might be its greatness, architecture or the events that took place during its long life and that dress up the place in uniqueness.
Although not a true castle, but rather a private residence of the Howard family, this edifice is located just 15 miles north of York. The place where you’ll get when visiting the so-called castle is most probably one that miles has nothing to do with. It will transponse you in a world far from 2014.
Part of The Treasure Houses of England group of heritage houses, the castle was built between 1699 and 1712 for the 3rd Earl of Carlisle. Let alone the dimensions of the castle that prevent one from not being impressed, the splendiferous gardens surrounding it add so much to the beauty of the place. A majestic work of humans in the middle of the nature.
The Baroque style, the Roman and Corinthian Doric pilasters, the cherubs, the urns, the cyphers and the contrasting Palladian style used for the West Wing all make the place a feast for the eyes. The castle history includes a devastating fire in 1940 that heavily affected the east side and that led to a demanding restoration. Even so, skilled people restored its beauty making it possible for us to pamper our interest in such fields with this wonderful place.
