The autumn is not only for preparing jams and pickles, but is also the proper season to prepare your home for winter. Here are some things that you should not condone in the coming weeks:
1. Remove the air conditioner from running
Once the temperatures begin to drop, the air conditioner is pointless. Therefore, it’s time to get it out of running. Unplug it from the outlet and pull out the dust filter.
2. Add tape to the doors
If the old gasket of the doors or windows is loose, remove it and replace it with new material.
3. Check the roof
Get on the roof and check if the roof tiles are in good condition. Clean gutters from dry leaves so they do not obstruct the drain. On this occasion, also check the vents or chimneys, they should be cleaned regularly, and fall is a great opportunity.
4. Embellish your patio
If you have a porch or a balcony, it’s time to slightly change their appearance. The quickest way is to use some potted plants that bloom in autumn. Chrysanthemums, for example, will give a very pleasant color and smell to the space.
5. Make firewood reserve
If you use a wood stove or fireplace, then is necessary to make your wood reserve for the cold weather. Find them a place, a warehouse or storage are ideal places to keep the wood away from the rain.
6. Cover the grill
It is clear that with the cooler temperatures you will not prepare the barbecue outside, so until spring, cover the grill and the garden furniture with slipcovers or store them under a roof to protect them from water.
7. Clean the bedding and the pillows
Take out of the closet or the attic the thick bedding. Clean them as the weather is still beautiful and can be dried in the sun. Clean the sofas and beds with a steam cleaner, and wash the covers and the pillows.
8. Change the wardrobe
You’ll need a few hours to replace the summer wardrobe with the one for winter. It’s best to be very selective and you decide from the start what you will not be wearing next season, so you don’t fill your closets with unnecessary things.
