50s style will always remain in the hearts of fashion or movie enthusiasts. But the half of the last century has put its mark on interior design, with sinuous lines and soft colors, style that starts to regain value now in the second decade of the XXI century.
RECONDITION OLD FURNITURE
If you’re the happy owner of some parts of that period, probably from your grandmother’s old house, then you can consider yourself lucky. You just need a little skill to recondition them to become functional.
But if you want to furnish your house in vintage style, and you don’t have such furniture, then the solution is to search in flea markets or online stores. You’ll find sensational pieces and if you are a good negotiator you can get them at very good prices.
CHOOSE WHITE
Retro style is one that relies in general on very clean colors, white or pastels. The combination of black and white is a perfect solution to recreate the atmosphere of those times. Little and good! This should be your motto, and the house to be refurbished rather in a minimalist retro style.
KEEP THE COLOR PALETTE
If you choose, instead, warmer tones, then try to keep the color palette and not mix too many colors in a room. For example, if you choose powder pink, combine it with brown wood color, so that the overall look is not too busy.
RELY ON THE COMBINATION OF WOOD AND LEATHER
Specific to the 50s of the last century are wood and leather. They go very well with a background of a white wall, but also with one of red brick.
KEEP THE CHARM OF FORMER TIMES
It is true that in an era in which appliances ease our life, it’s hard to give them up, but you can choose pieces that can delicate hide an electric oven or a dishwasher. Following the trend of the 50s style, producers of refrigerators, for example, took over the design of Smeg refrigerators, famous in that era, and created some at modern standards.
