The stairs design and their safety are not the only important elements when you have a two-storied house. Lighting is essential. Here are some ways you can literally light the stairs:
LIGHTS IN THE SIDE WALL
One option would be to install a lighting system in the side wall of the stairs. Depending on the size of the stairs, you’ll need three or four spots. In the example shown, the rectangular shape of the spots suits perfectly with the stairs design and the decor.
Here is another similar example. The difference lies in the size of the spots, but also the robustness of the stairs made of solid wood.
Another type of installation is the one that uses these semi-hidden bulbs that look like stars. They are basically just lights that ensure visibility on the stairs. They are subtle and fit with the elegant design of the stairs.
LIGHTS ON THE STEPS
In this case, the lights used are similar to those described above, because they are small, but powerful. However, here were installed along the stairs, on some beams. Every step has on its surface many ‘lit’ lines, forming a funny game of lights.
Another option would be to integrate bulbs in steps. It is a practical and elegant option at the same time. This pattern fits very well with minimalist decors.
‘SAFETY’ LIGHTS
There is another way to illuminate the stairs. You can use small, but powerful LEDs on their height. You don’t have to “light up” each step, it is sufficient to use these lights on every 2-3 steps and you’ll have plenty of light.
HIDDEN LIGHTS
Lights that come “from below” are even more interesting and provide a relaxing, intimate feel.
This is a similar system, but with more powerful lights. In this case, the difference is given by the strong contrast created between bright light and dark side of the steps.
LIGHTS AT HANDRAIL
The fifth option is to use a lighting system along the entire length of the handrail. Basically, with a light hose like those used in lighting the houses for Holidays, you can create a very interesting atmosphere if you fit it at the bottom handrail.
